A study circle is a small collective of individuals who regularly meet to debate or discuss an issue of relevance to their community. Rather than organizing around a hobby or activity, as a club might, a study circle organizes around a problem, opportunity or issue that they wish to understand and engage with for the benefit of the local area. The idea is rooted in a democratic understanding of self-directed learning and has long been associated with social movements.
