Rising on Air is an initiative launched in numerous West African countries with its headquarters in Sierra Leone. It is implemented by the Rising Academy Network using a high-quality curriculum adapted for distance learning. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, the programme provides accessible education to learners deprived of face-to-face instruction.

What is the initiative and where is it implemented (city or country, for example)?

Upskilling Pathways Recommendation is an initiative by The European Commission to improve the prospects of adults with low levels of educational qualifications. The Recommendation promotes pathway creation that enables adults to fill in the gaps in their literacy and numeracy skills and enhance their digital skills. Upskilling Pathways are accessible to adults with low qualifications.

PLAR is an initiative developed by the Canadian Association for Prior Learning Assessment (CAPLA). PLAR/RPL stands for Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition of Prior Learning. Prior learning assessment and recognition defines processes that allow individuals to identify, document, have assessed and gain recognition for their prior learning. The learning may be formal, informal, non-formal, or experiential (CAPLA, 2021).

Fast Track Initiative in Sweden

Fast Track Initiative was launched in Sweden in 2015 with the aim of introducing newly arrived immigrants with qualifications and experience in certain fields to the labour market in a time span of two years, validating their professional credentials, taking Swedish language courses and participating in professional trainings, which would allow them to find employment in their area of expertise while simultaneously reducing the shortage of labour in certain spheres.
